Ordering Dishwasher Parts On Your Own

Posted on June 17th, 2010 by admin

Everyone loves dishwashers. They make life so much easier. A dishwasher is here to make life less hectic for you.

A lot of chores need to be done to make a home run smoothly. Floors need to be swept, toilets need to be cleaned, and carpets need to constantly be vacuumed. Having a dishwasher makes cleaning the kitchen, and your dishes, run much more efficiently and quickly so you can spend time working on other projects that need to be done.

When your dishwasher breaks down you will quickly notice how much work is involved with doing dishes by hand. Utah plumbers are constantly having to work with dishwashers, and try to do a quick job of it because they know how inconvenient a broken dishwasher is to a family. Dishwashers make a big difference with dishes, especially in bigger households.

Before you call your Utah plumber because of a broken dishwasher, check to see what the problem is. Sometimes it can be easily spotted and can sometimes be fixed with out the aid of Utah plumbers. Other times you might not be able to tell what the issue is, and will have to leave it up to the professionals to find it out.

Dishwashers, like all appliances, need parts to function properly. Sometimes dishwashers break down because a part is not working anymore. If that is the case your Utah plumber will be able to tell you the cause, and what part you need to replace.

You can order the part through your Utah plumbing company. That way you know you received the right dishwasher part for your particular model. Once the part comes in it is an easy step for the plumbing company to send a technician over to fix the problem.

You can also order dishwasher parts online. There are websites available for specific hardware and dishwasher parts. This is one way to save money by comparing prices among your Utah plumbing company and the sites online.

The only drawback with ordering parts yourself is there is no guarantee that you are ordering the right part. This means longer wait times. So unless you are an expert in dishwasher repairs, you need to do some careful planning before ordering a part on your own.

Summer AC Tactics

Posted on June 16th, 2010 by admin

The summer can be dreadful in Utah. The air is dry, but the heat seems to be even drier. During the hottest months of summer, it is very important to have a Utah air conditioning system in your home to keep you healthy and sane.

Utah air conditioning units will only work, however, if you use them the right way. You need to be sure to take proper care of them to keep them in good, working order. There are a few different ways you can keep your system working right during the summer time.

First, be sure to clean your filters regularly. This means changing them out and cleaning them on a monthly basis. Cleaning your filters is a major deal, even if it doesn’t seem like it to you.

The reason is because your filters are constantly getting slammed. The more dirty the filters, the harder your Utah air conditioning unit is going to have to work. The harder your AC unit works, the more pressure there will be on the system.

Dirty filters can become clogged and block the air that needs to go through it. This means that your system has to push it harder to get that air circulating. This not only uses more energy, but can quickly wear down your system.

Be sure to change the filters every month to prevent this from happening. Changing filters will help your AC unit continue to operate correctly and save you from having to repair it. It never hurts to save money on your electricity bill as well.

You can also use other methods to cool you off in conjunction with your air conditioning unit. House fans, ceiling fans, and portable fans can all help keep the air in your home cooler. Fans will circulate the cool air and distribute it even nicer. Since heat rises, having your ceiling fan turned on while the AC unit is on will push the hot air out of the way and keep the cooler air circulating.

Keep your AC unit from having to work harder by keeping the windows and doors in your home closed. Cool air will quickly escape out the windows and doors if they are left open for even brief periods. Be sure that all windows and doors are properly sealed as well, so the air doesn’t leak in and out of your home while the unit is going.

Tank-less Water Heaters

Posted on May 24th, 2010 by admin

Many heater service providers are now offering what is called a tank-less water heater. These water heaters are great and can provide instant hot water with a lower utility bill. And who isn’t thinking about saving money right now in our economy?

Tank-less water heaters are just that. They are a water heater without a storage tank. Instead of having pre-heated water in a tank, they only heat up as necessary. These tank-less water heaters will provide instead heat at the temperature that you assign. Water Heater repair or replace

Because they are heating as they go, it cuts down on your utility bill. It won’t be heating unnecessary water that you are not using at the present. Tank-less water heaters can save up to 50% energy and generally cuts off about 10 to 20 percent of your water heating bill.

Another plus to these is that they last longer than typical storage water heaters. That’s right, endless amounts of water along with less maintenance. And usually has a life expectancy of 20 plus years.

No more cold showers. With tank-less water heaters, this isn’t a problem because they supply never-ending amounts of heated water. It doesn’t matter if you have your dishwasher, or regular washer going. Your shower wont turn cold, and neither will anything else.

Another great thing about tank-less water heaters is that they reduce the risk of flooding. I’ve experienced a flood in my basement due to a storage water heater. It isn’t fun to deal with that. With tank-less water heaters you completely reduce the change of a flood.

If you are cramped for storage space in your home, apartment, or town home, tank-less water heaters can help you out. They are a lot smaller because they don’t have to hold all the preheated water. They will take up far less room than the typical storage water heaters so you don’t have to worry about storage space.

Many water heater service providers offer free estimates and great deals. Call them to find out if this is perfect for you and your family.

Backflow Prevention

Posted on May 13th, 2010 by admin

Whenever I hear or see a home or business owner complain about having to perform their annual backflow device testing I like to take the time to explain what backflow devices are for and why they are so important.

Backflow devices protect a water source from being contaminated by whatever the backflow device is connected to. This can be important for obvious reasons, especially when the water source is connected to hazardous equipment.

Our water systems are needed to protect the health and welfare of the general public, so backflow prevention devices are put in place to ensure that when there is a problem with the water line, or a cross connection, that the drinking water cannot be contaminated by it. These devices prevent water from flowing back into the water mains and keep them clean.

There are different types of devices which can be installed, depending on the water system or potential hazard that can occur. A simple device can be installed on your outside faucets for under $5, while a more complext device can be installed on your water connection for over $300.

For the owners that have to pay for a more complex device it can be an added annoyance to have to pay for the device to be checked annually. They may feel that they have taken preventions against contamination and that is enough. Unfortuantely, even with all these preventions to cross connection and water contamination there are still over 10,000 reported cases of backflow contamination every year, with some cases being fatal.

It is understandable for owners of these devices to become frustrated by the constant testing that occurs. Since many of these devices are tested annually they mostly don’t worry about the consequences that may happen if it weren’t working correctly. It is important to realize that there are still over 10,000 reported cases of backflow contamination each year.

Utah Plumbers prevent backflow contaminationIf you own or are responsible for a backflow device, you need to know that backflow devices are prone to failure. The reasons for these failures range from the condition or the piping or divice, to the equipment connected to it.

Backflow devices are required by law where needed and must be installed in accordance with plumbing and building codes. A backflow assembly must be tested when installed to make certain it is operating correctly.

If a backflow device is not working properly (fails to operate) it will need to be repaired or replaced. A good tester will be able to determine why a device is malfunctioning or seeming to malfunction. Digital equipment is now used to aid in diagnosing any problems that arise.

Fix Your Own Dishwasher

Posted on May 10th, 2010 by admin

If you have a dishwasher it will probably require repair work at some point during the life of the appliance.  Perhaps if you have an older model, your dishwasher has already had problems.  When a household experiences dishwashing trouble, the first step is usually to call a Utah plumber.  But what might happen if just this once, you decide to check into the problem yourself?

Doing your own dishwasher repair is not as scary is it might sound.  There are many things you can do at home without any training at all.  Use these next tips to solve some of the most common dishwashing problems.

First, we will identify the most common dishwashing dilemmas.  You may have a dishwasher that isn’t washing properly.  Or your dishwasher may not drain. Most people have experienced one or both of these issues, so everyone would benefit from learning repair tactics for these issues.

So let’s start with the first most common problem: the dishwasher that won’t wash.  If your dishes aren’t clean after a washing cycle, there may not be enough water running through the system.  Start then by checking your sink’s shut-off valve to make sure water is getting into the dishwasher.

If you check the valve and find that water is available, then your dishwasher’s cleaning troubles may come from a clogged spray hole, hard water, or a faulty internal water valve.  If your internal water valve is faulty, you may need to call that Utah plumber after all!  But if your problem is clogged ducting or spray arms, or hard water you can repair those things yourself.

Start by checking each spray hole manually.  You may need to clear out anything that is blocking the water’s way.  But if everything seems clear and your dishes still come out cloudy and/or dirty after a full cycle, then you may need to look into a cure for hard water.  There are many marketed products that can clean your dishwasher’s hard water buildup.  Check to see if your washer’s manufacturer recommends a specific brand of hard water resolving.  Just doing this can bring your dishwasher back to a fully functioning unit.

However, what if your problem is with draining? You may just need to check your sink’s air gap.  That is the device next to your faucet.  If the air gap or the drain hose (that is connected to the air gap) is clogged, you simply clean them out by hand and retest the dishwasher’s drainage.  Doing these simple things will solve most dishwashing drainage troubles.

Now you know how to diagnose and solve a few of the most common dishwashing problems.  Next time your dishwasher goes haywire, try these tips out.  You will be amazed at the money you save in refraining to call the Utah plumber and fixing appliances yourself.
