Why You Need to Give Preventative Service to Your Air Conditioner

We as Americans spend billions of dollars every single year in efforts to cool down our homes and our places of business.  Air conditioning is a comfort we have grown to both appreciate and also expect.  Nothing is worse than being miserable and hot in the summer months and left without working air conditioning in Utah.

Since ac systems are mechanical, they of course, need maintenance.  We can’t just assume that they will work perfectly all the time.  It’s important to check out your Utah air conditioning unit from time to time to make sure everything is in working order.

Before you try to service your HVAC system at all, make sure you have turned off all the power breakers or removed any fuses from the fuse panels.  These systems hold high voltage.  You want to make sure you are wearing gloves and that all power is off before proceeding.

There aren’t many repairs you can make on a Utah air conditioning unit by yourself.  You always want to replace the air filter if it is dirty. A replacement can be purchased at a hardware store or ordered online.

You will want to keep your unit clean and free from any blockage or debris around it.  Don’t set things on top of it that could block the airflow.  Make sure all plants that are near it are trimmed back away from the unit.

If your system is dirty or the filter is blocked, you are preventing it from working at its top performance.  When the airflow is blocked, your system has to work twice as hard to keep going.  This causes your energy bill to really escalate.

Almost everyone has one in his or her home, so how often do you need to have your system checked?
Look at the documentation that came with your unit.  Recommendations vary based on a number of factors, for instance if you live where you have your system running year round.

Keep in mind that a professional service person should be called to your home or business for almost any maintenance other than routine cleaning.  Utah air conditioners should be inspected professionally and needed adjustments made at the beginning of every summer season.  Maintenance should not end just with these visits but be a seasonal occurrence.
